JAW JOINT DYSFUNCTION – Modjaw

Jaw joint has a unique structure and function in the body.

This uniqueness is ability of the mandible to move in various directions. Two joints are put in action from each side of the jaw, and these four joints make this unique movement possible. Jaw joint is located just next to the ear and connects maxilla to mandible. When placing both hands in region of ears and opening and closing the mouth, one can feel the movement of this joint.

People may encounter jaw joint problems in various ages and circumstances. Jaw joint dysfunction may be, however not always is, related to overload of head, neck and back muscles that cause poor posture (spinal deformation). This condition may subjectively be symptomless for a long time, however in many cases it causes muscle pain in the cranial area, pressing headache and also ache and blockades (pulling pain) in distal parts of the body, such as the spine, hip and knee joint. Most importantly, this dysfunctional joint often starts aching at some later point or does not ache at all, even though the jaw joint condition affects peripheral structures contributing to the posture.
