FAQ

  1. How long does an orthodontic treatment take place?

Duration of orthodontic treatment differs from person to person and it is determined by orthodontist according to the treatment plan elaborated individually for each patient. In milder cases orthodontic treatment may last from 3 to 12 months. Standard orthodontic treatment may last from 12 to 24 months. In more complicated cases one must count on orthodontic treatment between 24 to 60 months.

  1. Will some teeth need to be extracted upon starting the orthodontic treatment?

Modern orthodontics is based on alignment of occlusion without changing the number of teeth.

Each case is considered individually. This manipulation is required in exeptional cases if no other treatment methods can be used.

  1. How often will I have to attend orthodontist once I start the treatment?

If a patient has fixed braces, the visit is recommended every 1.5 to 2.5 months, but in case of aligning retainers – 3 to 4 months on average.

  1. What are the treatment costs?

The treatment costs are calculated individually according to all the necessary diagnostic measures.

  1. What is the best age for the first visit at the orthodontist?

It is advisable to pay the first visit to the orthodontist when a child has “deciduous teeth occlusion” developed, i.e. approximately 4 to 5 years.

  1. What is the difference between braces and retainers?

Braces are fixed systems, which requires the patient to keep very high dental hygiene level and avoid solid food. Aligning retainers are removable systems, they make dental hygiene routine very simple during the treatment and do not impose any crucial restrictions on a diet.

  1. At what age one can normally start orthodontic treatment?

Treatment can be started already during the change of the occlusion, from the age of 6.

  1. Will the obtained result stay for all life?

One’s occlusion adapts both for strength of chewing muscles and changes in tissue due to ageing over the course of a lifetime. By using the recommended retaining device — retainers, fixed retainers — it is possible to keep the obtained result much longer, provided that this person is not suffering from a disease of hard and soft oral cavity tissue.
